What each ingredient means
Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate
An olive-based emollient that helps the serum spread evenly over the hair. It contributes to a smoother, softer, and silkier feel without being a conventional silicone. Together with Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, it is part of the olive-based conditioning complex BergaCare FG Olive.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
A light and silky emollient that acts as a carrier for other ingredients. It helps the serum spread through the lengths and provides a lighter oily feel without the hair feeling greasy or heavy.
Parfum
The composite fragrance that gives Smooth its scent. The individual fragrance components are listed further down in the INCI list for full transparency.
Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables
The nourishing, non-saponifiable part of olive oil in a stabilized form. It helps to soften and condition the hair surface and works together with Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate for an even and supple finish.
Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil*
The official INCI name for argan oil. Smooth contains certified organic and cold-pressed argan oil, produced by cold pressing and deodorization. The oil is used as a hair conditioning ingredient and helps dry lengths feel softer and more well-groomed.
Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil*
The official INCI name for macadamia oil. The documented raw material is organic and cold-pressed. Macadamia oil acts as a softening and hair conditioning vegetable oil that contributes to a smoother feel and improved suppleness.
Polysorbate 80
An emulsifying and solubilizing ingredient. It helps oils, perfume, and other components to remain evenly distributed in the serum, so that each capsule provides a consistent formula. Polysorbate 80 is listed as an emulsifier in the product's safety documentation.
Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil*
The official INCI name for jojoba oil. The documented raw material is organic and cold-pressed. Jojoba consists mainly of natural wax esters and is used to give hair softness, shine, and a light, supple feel.
Tocopherol**
The official INCI name for vitamin E. It acts as an antioxidant and helps protect the serum's oils from oxidation while contributing to a nourishing feel in the hair.
The documented vitamin E raw material consists of 70 percent mixed tocopherols and 30 percent sunflower oil. The tocopherols are extracted from non-GMO soybeans.
Retinyl Palmitate
A stable ester form of vitamin A. It is used in the formula as a hair conditioning ingredient and contributes to the serum's nourishing composition. The raw material also contains a smaller amount of tocopherol for stability.
Carthamus Tinctorius Seed Oil
The official INCI name for safflower oil. It is a vegetable, emollient oil that contributes a light and supple feel.
In Smooth, the safflower oil comes from the raw material Aloe Vera Palmitate, which consists of Ethylhexyl Palmitate, safflower oil, and aloe vera extract.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract
The official INCI name for aloe vera extract. It is included as a nourishing component and helps to support a softer and more pleasant feel in dry hair lengths.
This ingredient also comes from the raw material Aloe Vera Palmitate.
Panthenol
Provitamin B5. Panthenol is a hair conditioning and antistatic ingredient that helps hair feel softer, smoother, and more supple. It can also help reduce the feeling of dry and rough lengths.
Trifolium Pratense/Vigna Radiata Sprout Extract†
A botanical extract from red clover and mung bean sprouts. It is the plant-based active part of Akosky™ Azuki and is included as a nourishing, antioxidant-based cosmetic ingredient.
Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil
The official INCI name for sunflower oil. It acts as a light emollient oil and as a carrier for vitamin E.
In the documented vitamin E raw material, sunflower oil makes up 30 percent of the raw material.
Glycerin
A humectant ingredient. It helps to bind and retain moisture and contributes to a softer feel.
In Smooth, glycerin mainly comes with the botanical Akosky™ Azuki complex.
Lactic Acid
Lactic acid. In this type of formula, it is used in small amounts to help adjust and stabilize the pH of the raw material.
The name may sound strong, but its function here is technical and stabilizing. It is present as a minor component in the Akosky™ Azuki raw material.
Cetearyl Alcohol
A softening fatty alcohol that can improve the serum's texture, stability, and glide.
It is notthe same type of alcohol as ethanol or drying alcohol. Cetearyl Alcohol is a wax-like cosmetic ingredient used to provide a soft and pleasant consistency.
Ethylhexyl Palmitate
A light emollient ester that helps the serum spread evenly and gives the hair a smoother and less greasy feel.
It is one of three components in the Aloe Vera Palmitate raw material, along with safflower oil and aloe vera extract.
Potassium Sorbate
Potassium sorbate. A preservative that helps protect the botanical raw material from yeast and mold growth.
It is present in the Akosky™ Azuki raw material in low concentration to keep the raw material stable during storage.
Sodium Benzoate
Sodium benzoate. A preservative that helps protect the botanical raw material from microbial growth and maintain its quality.
This ingredient also comes with the Akosky™ Azuki raw material.

Citral
A fragrance component with a distinct, fresh citrus and lemon character.
Linalool
A common fragrance component with soft, floral, and slightly lavender-like notes.
Limonene
A citrus-scented component that contributes a fresh character. It occurs naturally in citrus fruit peels, among other things.
Beta-Caryophyllene
A fragrance component with spicy, woody, and slightly peppery nuances. It also occurs naturally in several essential oils.
Hexamethylindanopyran
A fragrance with a soft, clean, and musk-like character. The long technical name describes the chemical structure of the fragrance molecule – not that it acts as a strong or treating ingredient.
Linalyl Acetate
A floral and slightly herbaceous fragrance component with associations to lavender and bergamot.
Tetramethyl Acetyloctahydronaphthalenes
A fragrance component that provides woody, warm, and slightly amber-like notes. It is one of the long names that may look technical but whose task in the formula is to build the perfume's scent.
Citrus Limon Peel Oil
The official INCI name for lemon oil from lemon peel. It contributes a fresh and naturally citrus-like scent.
Pinene
A fresh fragrance component with green, coniferous, and woody notes. Pinene also occurs naturally in many plants and essential oils.
Geranyl Acetate
A floral and fruity fragrance component that can give soft nuances of rose, lavender, and fruit.
Isoeugenyl Acetate
A warm fragrance component with floral, spicy, and slightly clove-like nuances.

Why does the list contain so many technical names?
INCI is the international and standardized ingredient language of cosmetics. Therefore, well-known ingredients are written with their official botanical or scientific names:

A long or technical name does not automatically mean that the ingredient is strong, drying, or unsuitable.
Some raw materials also consist of several components, and all of them must be shown separately in the INCI list. For example, Aloe Vera Palmitate consists of Ethylhexyl Palmitate, safflower oil, and aloe vera extract. The vitamin E raw material contains both Tocopherol and sunflower oil. The botanical sprout complex contributes, among other things, plant extract, glycerin, and stabilizing ingredients.
Smooth combines olive-based emollients with organic, cold-pressed argan, jojoba, and macadamia oil, aloe vera, provitamin B5, vitamin A, and vitamin E. Each ingredient has a function: to nourish the hair, improve the serum's texture and spread, preserve the formula's stability, or create the product's scent.
The ingredients with the longest names at the end of the list are mainly the declared fragrance components of the perfume. They are disclosed openly so that the customer can see the full content.
